This report is the second in a series produced by Arup and Siemens addressing resilient infrastructure in cities. Using Ho Chi Minh City as a case study, our appraisal evaluates the resilience value of investing in integrated ‘smart’ transport technologies such as Integrated Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) or an Inter-Operator Fare Collection (IFC) system.

Key features

In addition to efficiency and resilience benefits, our appraisal indicates the potential for a high socio-economic return on investment provided by ‘smart’ transport technology. In Ho Chi Minh City, for every prospective $1 invested, the city can expect a return value exceeding $3. Such figures illustrate comparable benefits for other rapidly developing cities.
